Using the Right Skincare and Makeup Products for Your Skin Type

by Sylvia Swinson

Getting the most from your makeup products is just like becoming a painter. In order to get started, you really need to care for the "canvas" - your skin. Not everyone can have that soft perfect skin tone, but we can make the best of what we have, keeping in mind these three important words: clean, tone and moisturize.

That's right, getting a amazing look with cosmetics product is a lot like creating a work of art. By knowing some makeup and cosmetics basics, you can create your very own pretty face.

After you determine your skin type, you can select the group of skincare products that are best for you. Typical facial cleansers, astringents and moisturizers work with normal skin types. A Very dry skin needs a regimen with skin care products that are rich in moisturizing emollients to restore and ensure softness. Oilier skin requires water-based products that won't add more moisture. People with combination skin, - oily in some parts of the face, dry in others - should clean with traditional products, but should take special care to adapt astringent and moisturizer to the dry or acne-prone areas.

Then, decide on a good foundation that matches your skin type. Always purchase the absolute best cosmetics you can afford, because it's going on one of the most important organs of your body, your skin. Cheaper cosmetics looks on your face like just what they are - cheap quality makeup product.

The trickiest aspect of picking out a good foundation is to find your correct shade. The harsh lighting used at most makeup counters can fade out your skin color, making it hard to get a shade. To make up for it, try a sample of the foundation product on the skin inside of your wrist. Your skin in that part of your arm will be the the closest match to the skin on your face. Don't try to pick a shade by applying it to the back of your hand, because your hand can appear darker from being out in the sun. Also, don't try makeup testers on your face, because such samples very likely contain germs.

Now the actual fun begins, choosing a new look out of all those cool cosmetics colors! Most girls like to have at least two cosmetics looks, one for during the day and another darker look for night time and special occasions. Many women match their makeup colors with the main colors in their wardrobes, while others like to try all the new stylish looks each new season.

Most ladies need to have at least a couple different looks for their cosmetics, one for day and one for night time. Typically, because natural light is strongest in day, more down-played makeup looks best for daytime or work looks. If you have pale or medium complexion, try light tan eye shadow with a brown liner, a neutral tan (no dead brown, please) lip color, and a brush of peach-colored blush. If you have a deeper complexion, use deeper reddish or berry shades that correspond with your skin tone for lips and cheeks.

You can choose makeup product colors according to the color scheme of your clothes, or you can come with your own "signature" looks based on your complexion and hair color. Once you've figured out your cosmetics products, just make sure your look blends together for your desired effect. Whether your makeup is bold or subtle, you don't want to end up looking like a painted doll!

Because of these various needs, it's always best to get a family member or beauty consultant help you check out your makeup look. A friendly eye can assist you in coming up with your final work of art - the most attractive you!
